Aluminium,
lead, gold and copper are all handled by Street Cranes.
Although many crane applications for lifting which handle
non-ferrous metals are essentially the same as applications
in the steel industry,
others are quite different.
For example, general aluminium and steel coil handling
are very similar but coils of aluminium foil are a quite
a different challenge due to the value and fragility
of the load, which may dictate special measures such
as swing prevention software,
no go zones, target positioning, or position encoding.
Scrap handling of non-ferrous metals is generally best
done by clamshell grabbing and non-ferrous plate handling
by vacuum lifting beams, which can be designed for particular
applications. Molten metal cranes
are generally similar in ferrous and non-ferrous Applications.
Special grabs for ingot and slab handling may need common
controls with the crane.
In many metals, crane's speed and duty rating or the
need to supply ancillary equipment may make the specification
of heavy-duty open winch hoists. |
